CORE VALUES

The Affirmation of Faith is our core theology, but every church also has a set of core values that are key to its identity. We have identified ours as:

  • Discipleship/ Growth – Hughson St. will strive as a church community, to preach and teach the Word of God and promote and develop personal faith and spiritual growth through small group structures, one-on-one discipleship partners, elder shepherding, special meetings/ seminars and any other appropriate means.

  • Deep Relationships - We endeavour to establish deeper personal connections among those attending Hughson St., neighbours in the North End and others in our personal circles. For the Christian relationships, as they deepen through fellowship, discipleship and small group structures, we will strive to develop accountability with each other, in order to help keep our walks with Christ active, strong and healthy.

  • Evangelism - As a church, Hughson St. dearly holds to the proclamation and proliferation of the gospel message of salvation through faith in Christ. As a church, Hughson St. will focus its evangelism on the North End neighbourhood while individuals within Hughson St. will always be encouraged to share with those in their personal circles.

  • Justice –We value fairness and equality and work towards these by providing practical assistance to the disadvantaged and by advocating on behalf of those without a voice. We encourage one another to continually and personally consider and act upon issues that affect the well-being of others, such as social problems like poverty, racism, and violence, environmental problems like pollution, and economic problems like unfair trade.

  • Community Connectivity – Hughson St. intentionally and specifically values and channels its focus on the geographical community of our neighbourhood, the North End, following or modelling a community ‘parish’ structure.

  • Partnership - For the sake of reaching the North End neighbourhood with the gospel of grace of love, Hughson St. will consider partnerships within or outside of its governing denomination so long as the partnership is glorifying to God.

  • Sustainability - Any relationship, program, ministry or partnership will have stable support according to God’s call and purpose as it may be enacted through designated leadership at Hughson St.

  • Balance - We will attempt, both in church involvement and in our personal lives, to balance out time, efforts, ministries and relationships in order to attain and maintain appropriately b alanced activities and lives to preserve the health of our families and spiritual lives.
